Artwork Description:
This Gustav Klimt-inspired painting of a sleeping child is a painting based on the character of the niece of the artist. It was produced on the basis of a color photograph of Violette created by the artist's grandmother in Minsk, Belarus. Artist's grandmother had a lifelong hobby of photography and in years amassed a collection of 1000nds of family photographs. Her photograph here was reworked with more varied colors and the character of the girl was made more universalized by Nicholaas Chiao.
