The digital painting The Birthday was definitely inspired by Diego Velasquez's masterpiece Las Meninas, which was one of Chiao's favorite paintings straight from his childhood. It depicts two women in lavish elitarian peacock-like dresses surrounding the table with the birthday cake in the palace-like interior. The characters of women here were influenced by the artist's girlfriend and her younger sister. This painting would be the hymn of mystery and beauty of youth.
